Yes, you can love getting dressed with lipedema
Lipedema changed how I shop for clothes. Here is what I found that works.
Getting dressed with lipedema is hard. Nothing fits the way it should and standing in front of clothes that do not work for your body is one of the most discouraging parts of this condition. And it is not in your head.
A peer-reviewed study of 329 women with lipedema found that feeling distressed about their appearance had a bigger impact on their quality of life than even their physical pain or mobility. And clothing companies do not make it easy at all. Sizing is inconsistent and stressful — most stores claim to offer inclusive sizes but an XXL that fits like a regular L is not inclusive. It is just a label. And it just brings down your hopes.
So, let’s talk what works.
First — figure out your colors
Before you shop, do your color analysis. It is called seasonal color analysis — based on your skin tone, eye color and hair color you fall into one of four seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter. Each season has a palette that makes you look more vibrant and more like yourself. When you wear your colors everything just works.
You can use AI, search the seasonal color charts online or hire a color analyst if you want something more definitive — and support a small business while you are at it. However you do it, knowing your colors make you feel more in control of your wardrobe.
Second — shop! Here is what works for me
All from Old Navy, all affordable, all size inclusive up to 4X in tops and size 30 in jeans.
The Snug Crop Tank Top — Shop here My go-to base layer. Wear it under everything. XS to 4X.
The SoSoft Cropped Cardigan — Shop here My favorite styling trick — button it at the waist to show your shape and leave it open at the hips so it skims right over them. XS to 4X.
High-Waisted Wow Wide-Leg Jeans — Shop here High waist, wide leg, stretch fabric. They flow over your thighs and calves without squeezing. Sizes 00 to 30, short through long inseam.
Extra High-Waisted Wide-Leg Jeans — Shop here Same great wide leg, even more rise. My go-to on long days when comfort is everything.
High-Waisted Crinkle Gauze Super Wide-Leg Pants — Shop here I wear these ALL the time. Lightweight 100% cotton, pull-on elastic waistband — no zipper, no button, no digging in — and a super wide leg that flows beautifully. Perfect for warm weather, casual days or honestly any day you just want to feel good. XS to 4X.
These tips have helped me feel more like myself again, and that is everything. More to come! But first, what are your go-to finds? Drop them in the comments
